ANDI COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


General Provisions

ANDI training programs are categorized by subject matter, rating and level. Certification on any subject will be further defined by rating and level.

Level refers to the degree of training and experience they have amassed.

• Level I Entry level, no previous experience required. Considered recreational.

• Level II Advanced Recreational

• Level III First Technical Level. Decompression theory and practice is a required aspect.

• Level IV Advanced Technical. More experience and equipment utilized.

• Level V Deeper and or longer diving utilizing other mixtures of gases other than Oxygen and Nitrogen (i.e. Helium).

 SAFEAIR® TRAINING


Complete SafeAir® User - (CSU Level 2)

Text : The Application of Enriched Air Mixtures
Pre-requisite: Open Water Diver certified

The CSU course is the “advanced SafeAir” program and builds upon and expands the material introduced in the LSU course. It may be used as a review or as a stand-alone program. It covers the information necessary to make use of all 8 of the ANDI-identified applications of SafeAir within the
sport diving limits. Those completing this course are certified to use all SafeAir mixtures, including SafeAir 50. This program requires 8 -12 hours of lecture and two open water orientation \ training dives.


Note: Part one (classroom) and part two (open water) are to be completed satisfactorily prior to LSU and CSU certification. A part one certification may be issued upon satisfactory completion of all classroom requirements. This certification may be used to complete the two logged SafeAir dives required for full certification.

Safe-Air Wreck Diver (SWD Level 2)

Text : The Techniques of Wreck Diving
Prerequisite: Complete SafeAir User (CSU)

This is a Level-II program covering all aspects of wreck diving and specialized equipment while utilizing SafeAir for bottom time & safety benefits. Since it is advanced recreational in nature, no penetration or decompression is permitted (these skills are covered in the Level-III Wreck course,
TWD). Other related programs include The ANDI Confined Environment Diver (level-II) and the Technical Wreck Diver.

TECHNICAL DIVING COURSES

Technical Safe-Air® Diver - (TSD Level 3 )

Text : Advanced Diving Activities
Pre-requisite: CSU certification or equivalent + 50 logged dives. Other pre-requisites may apply.

This is the first ANDI program to cover the specific information and skills necessary to perform stage-stop required, “technical” decompression diving while minimizing the associated risk factors. Also covered: how to use various SafeAir mixtures to increase decompression efficiency and safety, gas volume management, oxygen dosage tracking and contingency planning/procedures. This course serves as the building block for other ANDI Technical and Exploration programs. The operational depth limit for this program is extended to 165 fsw / 50 msw. This is an equipment and skill-intensive course requiring extensive counseling by the ANDI Technical Instructor. This program includes 8 -10 hours of lecture and 4 - 5 open water training dives. Minimum bottom time for the required dives is 180 minutes.

Extended-Range Exploration Diver - ( ERD Level 4 )

Text : Extended Range & Tri-Mix Exploration Diving
Pre-requisite: TSD certification or equivalent + 100 logged dives. Other pre-requisites may apply.

This program is designed to bridge the gap between the advanced / decompression diver and the deep explorer. The ERD program is a diving oriented course with extensive practical diving included. The ERD course may be a stand alone program or taught in conjunction with either the TSD or the TMD course but not both. The following topics will be stressed: gas supply management, decompression table selection, team functioning and mission planning relative to longer and deeper dives. The maximum recommended depth in this program is 165 fsw / 50 msw. It also offers the option to extend to 190 fsw / 58 msw ( if conditions and experience allow) for the practical application of narcosis management as well as an evaluation of personal limits. This course prepares the diver for ultra-deep, “mission-oriented” dives and entry into the Tri-mix Exploration Program. This is an equipment intensive course requiring extensive counseling by the ANDI ERD Instructor. 6 - 8 hours of lecture and
3 \ 4 open water dives are required for certification. Minimum bottom time for the dives is 240 minutes.


Tri-Mix Exploration Diver - ( TMD Level 5 )

Pre-requisite: TSD and ERD certifications or equivalent + 200 logged dives. Other pre-requisites may apply. Revised Aug 98

For depths beyond 165 fsw / 50 msw, the use of helium to offset the high levels of nitrogen offers a major risk reduction. The ANDI Tri-Mix Exploration Diver will have the ability to control both the narcosis and oxygen equations which must be considered when diving to these deeper depths. The operational depth limit for this program is extended to 326 fsw / 100 msw ( if conditions and experience allow). 6 - 8 hours of lecture and 3 \ 4 open water dives are required for certification. Minimum bottom time for the dives without decompression time included is 75 minutes.

Safe-Air Service Technician (CST)

Prerequisites: Authorized to service at least one major manufacturers equipment line.

The SafeAir Service Technician is an instrumental individual within the ANDI facility. Their role is to oversee the servicing requirements of equipment to be used with SafeAir and to insure that ANDI standards (as well as local standards) are met. The CST course is a two-day course covering all aspects of SafeAir equipment servicing. Theory and hands on experience is provided. All ANDI facilities are required to have at least one CST on staff.

Safe-Air Gas Blender (CGB)

Text : Oxygen Handling & Gas Blending Procedures

Prerequisites: The ANDI CST course is strongly advised.

The SafeAir Gas Blender insures the proper operation of blending equipment and that ANDI standards for gas purity is met within the ANDI facility. This course is often run in conjunction with a CST course. Training on this subject separately usually lasts one full day. Theory and hands on experience is provided.

Visual Inspection Technician (VIP)

Prerequisites: None however experience with other equipment servicing is helpful.

 The visual Inspection technician covers inspection procedures, regulations and documentationrequirements for the technician involved in cylinder inspections.

REBREATHER DIVER COURSES


Passport Rebreather Diver ( ICC Level 1)

Text : Introduction to Closed-Circuit Technology - An introductory training program offering the participant the opportunity to experience the sensation of “silent scuba” as well as to become acquainted with the technology of closed-circuit rebreather’s. This is an “experience” program and does not certify one as a “User”. This certification offers the “Passport” card holder to dive with a product-specific certified rebreather instructor. The format consists of an explanation of the concepts, components and principles of operation. In addition to the 2-hour lecture, there is included a practical dive conducted in either a confined environment or controlled “open water” environment. The maximum depth limit for this program is 40 fsw / 12 msw.
Prerequisites: OW certification.

This is an equipment and skill-specific course consisting of 4-5 hour introduction is available to all levels of “open water certified” divers.

LEVEL III Equipment Requirements?

• Double cylinders (minimum 12 l/70 cf each, with larger preferred) with isolator manifold
• Primary and secondary regulators, one with two metre/seven foot hose (approx.) for gas sharing, and one with SPG
• Stage/decompression cylinders with regulator, SPG, mounting hardware and proper labeling/markings. One  to Two per diver will be required.
• Backup decompression cylinders as appropriate and required for the environment
• BCD and harness – redundant buoyancy control is required (double bladder BCD or dry suit if suitable for weight of equipment worn)
• Depth gauge/computer and backup depth gauge/computer
• Timing device and backup timing device
• Trimix decompression information (tables/ trimix computer) and backup decompression information
• Exposure suit appropriate for environment and dive duration. (If students will use dry suits, they should be trained/experienced with their use in recreational and technical diving prior to using them for trimix training or diving.)
• Argon dry suit inflation or other inflation system as needed (students should not inflate dry suit with trimix)
• Weight system (if needed)
• Jon line (if needed for current diving environments)
• Inflatable signal tube
• Reel
• Lift bag (bright yellow or per local community practice preferred)
• Knife/cutting device and backup
• Slate
